A few more Pictures

This is my current project,
as I have no loom at the moment
I'm looking back through all my samples from previous warps,
to find other uses for them.

As I have a lot from my jelly fish project (that I can't use for anything else!)
I thought I'd make a collection of brooches to sell at the
Swindon Artsite Hand Made Market.
on 7th Nov 11am - 4pm
I hope you Like them!

Inspiration

its hard to get going again without my loom for inspiration! But as the patchwork has been well received I hope to try and start with that, I just need to get the right look .......
To Help I'm off to Origin tomorrow, in the hope that some of the creative spirit and talent will rub off!

sad day

today we took the loom apart as we are moving to Swindon.
I haven't found a studio yet so its going into storage for a while - no weaving for a few months:(

patchwork

I've strayed away from the weaving on this one!
After finding an overlocker and a load of old fabric at Oxfam, I decided to make a patchwork quilt for my parents 30th wedding anniversary. For their wedding Mum and Dad had pink and cream flowers and my Dad had a brown suit so I tried to use those colours mainly (but couldn't resist a few of the other fabrics in the bag!).
Its the 1st thing I've made like this and I very much enjoyed doing it and Mum and Dad seemed to like it too, so I may experiment some more watch this space ..........

New Works

Well the exhibition is over and it went well, not loads of people but the ones that came were very interested in the work and left us lovely comments!
I now have a little time for some new work which is exciting. A week spent looking at your old work and in the company of other creatives can be quite inspiring. Chatting about the work and where to go with it etc. I am now weaving the 1st of hopefully a series of larger pieces, using a really simple plain weave draft and a dip dyed wool warp. hopefully interesting things will happen to the wool once the tension is taken off!

Wednesday 8 July 2009

Exhibition time again!
this time we, that is TaP are taking over an empty shop space in Coventry for a week.
The plan is that as well as having the exhibition we will also have on going demostrations of our textile practices, I plan to do a bit of machine embroidery as my loom is far from portable!!!
Please come and see us, Unit One, City Arcade, Coventry. Mon 13th -Sat 18th 10:30-16:00.
Private view Mon 13th 18:00-20:00

Samples of the pea project

At last the first samples of the pea warp.
A mono and silk mix that when washed create a seersucker type of fabric, which makes the thick silk jump off the fabric.

Now I've got these off the loom I can plan the next samples.

pea warp

an unexpected break in my paid work means that this week I will hopefully have my next pea inspired warp on the loom. Its different from the last one in that it is a single cloth, and I have dip dyed the warp in lovely shades of pea green. So in a few days all being well I shall have some photos.
Now I just have to go and work out the peg plans ............

Drawing

I'm on a snow day today as the yarn I was expecting today has not arrived due to the bad weather. Bad news as I'm on a tight deadline for this piece of work so it'll mean catch up over the weekend.
But to fill the time I've gone back to my sketch books and started to do a bit of drawing to try and get inspired for the next time I have a bit of time for my own work. Which will hopefully be in a couple of months, as there is a spring art fair I want to put some work in.
I'm drawing beads, cups and saucers and glasses, trying to create the look of the antique/charity shop. I want to do big ish drawings of all the nicknaks on the shelves at Oxfam where I volunteer. Then some how tie those in with the old fashioned look fabrics I wove a few months ago.
